Nissan History

Did you know that Nissan used to be called Datsun? The brand launched in the U.S. back in 1958 under that name, but eventually, in 1984, it transformed into Nissan Motors USA, which is the name we know it as today. Nissan also owns a luxury automotive brand called Infiniti. Nissan was initially famous for its aspirational Datsun Z performance lineup of cars. The famous 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, and 280ZX wowed sports car buyers with their speed and handling characteristics.

Nissan charged (no pun intended) headlong in the all-electric market back in the late 1990s, building prototypes that ran solely on battery power. In 2010, Nissan introduced the LEAF, a mass-market, road-ready all-electric vehicle. The car was launched globally and is currently the second best-selling EV in history, after the Tesla Model 3, enjoying a nearly 50% market share of worldwide electric cars.

The company is also working on cutting-edge driverless (a.k.a. autonomous) technology, with a program dating back to 2013 with ongoing engineering and road testing. Born from that effort is the Nissan ProPILOT driver-assist suite of driver safety systems, designed to create an alert system that helps drivers mitigate collisions and stay safer while on the road.

NISMO, Nissan’s motorsports arm, demonstrates the company’s commitment to performance-based innovation and edgy, risk-taking endeavors. A combination of “Nissan” and “Motorsports,” NISMO enjoys a 50-year reputation in the racing community and an undying commitment to racing achievement. NISMO’s parts arm offers a catalog of aftermarket performance parts for everyday racing enthusiasts around the world.

What Makes Nissan a Great Brand for Louisville Drivers

Nissan vehicles make great cold-weather companions for Indiana drivers, with plenty of all-wheel drive options and 4x4 trucks to power through even the worst stormy weather. Luckily, these vehicles are at home on sunny days, too, offering plenty of curb appeal and fun, warm weather features, like power sunroofs and powerful audio systems for blasting your favorite playlist.

Choose the city-friendly all-electric LEAF for navigating congested Indianapolis streets. This 100% battery-powered EV delivers over 200 miles of range and an average of 111 MPGe of fuel economy, making it an excellent choice for urban dwellers. Its nimble handling and demure size mean no parking lot or one-way street is too tight, and with 30 cubic feet of cargo space, it’s the perfect shopping companion to hold all your treasures.

The compact Rogue is a fan favorite, delivering heaps of style in a smaller package. The mid-size Murano and iconic Pathfinder offer more room but no less style and they deliver capable all-wheel drive dependability right when you need it most. The elegant full-size Armada is perfect for larger families looking to ride in style, and in addition to good looks and luxury, it handles terrain like a rugged off-roader.

The bottom line: there’s a Nissan that’s perfect for every Indiana driver, regardless of lifestyle or budget. That’s the beauty of Nissan. It’s a versatile lineup with something for everyone. Get your next new or pre-owned Nissan at Coyle Nissan in Clarksville, just outside of Louisville. We’re Indiana’s favorite Nissan dealer for a reason: we put our customers first, every day, every time.
